We Are Now Accepting Short-Term Midwifery Students/Apprentices
We have opened our birthing clinic, Mercy Maternity Center, to students/apprentices who are seeking higher volume birth experiences. This opportunity is made possible as positions are available. This opportunity is ideal for those desiring to gain experience in a developing-world maternity clinic. We recommend a 3-4 month stay at our facility to maximize your time, investment and travel expenses.
Experience you will gain:
Upon arrival you will be integrated into one of our clinical teams. You will immediately be involved with every aspect of the clinic. Depending on your previous experience and knowledge of midwifery, you will be allowed to conduct your own prenatal exams and assist and/or handle births under the supervision of a qualified supervisor and midwife.
Generally, students/apprentices work 5 shifts per week rotating between the birth room and prenatal activities. An average of 25-35 babies are born each week at the clinic so no one will be lacking for hands on experience! Opportunities are also available to participate in remote provincial outreaches to provide primary healthcare and prenatal care to needy families, some of whom include tribal people. This is highly recommended for each student.
Fees:
The fee for the short term stay is $600/month. This fee will cover all room and board expenses as well as educational fees. One month payment must be made in full prior to arrival.
The fee does NOT include travel, visa and other personal expenses. A minimum of a one month stay is required.
