Perform general physical examination:
- Weight/height
- Vital signs: b/p, pulse, temp
- Reflexes
- Abdomen, spine, and skin
- Ausculate heart and lungs
- Breast examination
- CVA tenderness
- Deep tendon reflexes of the knee
- Check extremities for edema
Perform prenatal exam:
- Determination of due date by wheel or calendar
- Vital signs
- Respiratory assessment
- Weight
- Urinalysis
- Hct
- CVA tenderness
- DTR of the knee
- Clonus
- Fundal height
- Fetal heart rate auscultated with fetascope or doppler
- Palpation skills (or fetal position, presentation, lie)
- Assessment of edema
Use techniques to assist and
support spontaneous vaginal birth
of baby and placenta
- Use aseptic technique
- Perform internal exams
- Give injections
- Start IVs
- Neonatal resuscitation
- Evaluation and care of perineum and surrounding tissues (suturing)
Perform newborn examination:
- Assess general health and appearance of baby
- Temperature
- Heart rate, rhythm and regularity
- Respirations
- Weight
- Length
- Measurement of head, chest and length of baby
