Degree Requirements


Newlife Int'l School of Midwifery students are dual-enrolled in the National College of Midwifery's degree programs. These include; Associate of Science in Midwifery (A.S.M.) and Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (B.S.M).

Associate of Science in Midwifery (A.S.M.)

  • Completion of 2 academic years (4 semesters)
  • Pass all courses with at least an 80% grade
  • 3.0 or above over-all GPA
  • Completion of the General Education and Core Midwifery, and clinical areas of study
  • Attend 30 births as an active participant.
  • Attend an additional 20 births in the role of primary midwife.*At least 5 of these births you must provide continuity of care. Continuity of care includes 4 prenatal visits, birth, newborn exam and at least 1 postpartum exam.
  • Complete 100 prenatal visits (including 20 initial exams)
  • Complete 25 newborn exams
  • Complete 40 postpartum exams
  • Complete 30 well woman exams/family planning consultations
  • Pass the NARM exam and be a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)
  • Current CPR certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Certification

*You provide all aspects of care as if you were the primary midwife, although a supervising midwife has primary responsibility and is present in the room during any care provided.

Bachelor of Science in Midwifery (B.S.M.)

  • Completion of requirements for A.S.M. degree
  • Completion of Advanced area of study, and 2 semesters of Clinical area of study
  • Complete research project
  • Submit research project
  • Current CPR certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Certification
  • Current membership in a local or national midwifery organization
