National Midwifery Standards

The Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) has developed a list of core competencies for entry-level midwives. The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) has pioneered a national standard academic exam and a process to verify practical skills. NARM is nationally certifying midwives who qualify with the title of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM). Most states that license midwives use the NARM academic test and practical skills verification as their standard of acceptance.

It is anticipated with this national standardization, midwives who become NARM certified will be able to practice more easily from one state to another. However, each state has its own laws regarding certification and licensing.

The Newlife Int'l School of Midwifery curriculum and the accreditation of the National College of Midwifery is in compliance with the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA) core competencies and the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) practical skills.

By dual-enrolling in the Associate Degree of Midwifery program of the National College of Midwifery and Newlife Int'l School of Midwifery education program, students will be able to apply for NARM certification and take the NARM written exam. The NARM skills exam will be waived for students who have completed the Newlife Int'l School of Midwifery education program and the accredited Associates Degree of Midwifery program of The National College of Midwifery.

IMPORTANT ADVISORY: It is up to each applicant and student to familiarize herself with the requirements related to the state/province in which she desires to practice after graduation.

__________

Let each applicant understand the nature of accreditation under MEAC. If students are seeking to transfer credits to another institution after graduation, they should first consult with their respective receiving college or university.
