PROGRAM LENGTH & COURSE SCHEDULE

Program Length

The entire program is approximately 2.5 - 3 years; divided by quarters.

Please note that the program may take longer than 3 years for students who struggle to complete the academics or need additional time to complete all of the clinical requirements.

Each quarter is 3 months (13 weeks) long:  10 weeks of academics, 1 week of exams, followed by 2 weeks of an academic break. At the end of each academic year students will be required to attend an in-person skills training and evaluation session.

Full Time or Part Time Academic Options

Students can choose to enroll full time and follow the course sequence as outlined below.  This path is comprised of 2.5 years of full time academics.

We understand that being a midwife student is very demanding and some people are unable to commit to a full time schedule.  Therefore, we also offer a part time option. Students may choose to enroll part time and take classes as they are able.  The part time path will take longer but may be more manageable for people with other outside commitments and responsibilities.  Part time students will still need to complete all requirements but can complete these at a slower pace.

Preceptor

This program follows the NARM Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP).  While Newlife works to comply with the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council requirements for accreditation, this program follows the NARM Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP).

Although Newlife provides a thorough and comprehensive academic curriculum, each student will need to find their own preceptor and a birth practice (home birth or birth center) where they can gain the necessary clinical skills.

Newlife will assist students in this process.  Students are encouraged to secure a preceptor and a practice location by the start of the second academic quarter. However, students may opt to start their clinical placement later in the program. The NISM clinical coordinator will assist students with this process.
